‘Embroidery Building’ to be staged in China-ASEAN Drama Week

In the Chenhe High-pitched Opera Training Institute of Luxi County, Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, performers are rehearsing the Chenhe Opera “Embroidery Building”, preparing for the 10th China-ASEAN Drama Week (Nanning). It is the second time that the Chenhe Opera of Luxi County has been performed on the international stage since it was staged in Europe in 1998. Without costumes and in limited space, the performers are fully engaged in the moving story.

In recent years, the training institute has won 2 national awards, 5 provincial-level awards, 10 prefectural-level awards, and 6 county-level awards, and young actors have won 1 national best newcomer award, 12 provincial excellent actor awards, and 23 prefectural excellent creation and actor awards.

At the same time, the training institute has extensively carried out learning and exchange activities. This year, it participated in the first Chenhe High-pitched Art Festival of the Yuanshui River Basin. Their plays, such as “Li Huiniang”, “Liu Mei” and “Embroidery Building”, have received widespread praise from professional theatrical groups and the public. Gong Jie, an actor of Chenhe High-pitched Opera, said, “We have been preparing the play since 2017. Although tired, we are also very happy. We can showcase the regional traditional culture of Luxi County to the audiences around the world by performing the plays in the China-ASEAN Drama Week, allowing more people to deeply understand this national intangible cultural heritage item.”

The China-ASEAN Drama Week (Nanning) is an international cultural exchange and dissemination event. It has been held for 9 consecutive times since 2013 and has become a large-scale and influential art festival for China towards ASEAN.

The 10th China-ASEAN Drama Week (Nanning) will be held in December. The Chenhe Opera “Embroidery Building” is one of Hunan’s two programs to be staged in this drama week.
